Professional Biography:
John R. Fenyk, Jr. M.D., practices primarily medical dermatology as a general dermatologist. Dr. Fenyk has a strong emphasis on the autoimmune and immunobullous disorders which constitute more than half of his practice. He has strong interests in clinical research and maintains ongoing Phase II and Phase III clinical research projects. Dr. Fenyk initially joined the Dermatology Department of the University of Minnesota as full-time faculty in 1979. In 1980 he became part-time Clinical faculty when he left to direct 3M’s Dermatology program and ultimately assumed responsibility for 3M’s Wound Healing research effort as well. Dr. Fenyk was in private practice from 1983 to 2008 and has recently re-joined the University of Minnesota Dermatology Department full-time. Dr. Fenyk has engaged in clinical practice at the University of Minnesota since 1997.
Dr. Fenyk was born in Sussex, New Jersey and grew up in Marion, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Psychology in 1969. He entered Medical school at the University of Virginia in 1972 and received his M.D. in 1975. Dr. Fenyk completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1976 and his Residency in Dermatology at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Minnesota in 1979. He then completed a Fellowship in research at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Fenyk is Board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. Currently, he is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota with teaching and clinical responsibilities at the Fairview University Medical Center and will soon be adding similar responsibilities at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Professional society memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Medical Association, Minnesota Medical Association, Hennepin County Medical Society, and Minnesota Dermatologic Society.
Dr Fenyk has served on the Board of Directors of the Society for Investigative Dermatology as a Resident/Fellow.
