Professional Biography:
Erin Warshaw, MD received her undergraduate degree from Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans, LA where she received a prestigious 4-year academic Presidential Scholarship. Following graduation, she traveled and studied alternative medicine for a year in India and England on a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. Her medical school training was supported by an academic 4-year Robert J. Woodruff Fellowship to Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA where she also completed her internship and dermatology residency. She served as chief resident during her last year of residency as well as director of the Emory University Dermatology Patch Test Clinic.
Dr. Warshaw joined the staff at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and University of Minnesota in 1996. She served as chief of the dermatology section at the Minneapolis VA until 2001 when she began a 3-year clinical research career development award from the VA.
One of Dr. Warshaw’s major areas of interest is occupational and contact dermatitis. She completed a Women’s Dermatology Fellowship in this area and has been co-director of the University of Minnesota’s training program for patch testing since 1996. The physical location of this clinic was recently moved from the University Campus to Hennepin Faculty Associates. She has served on the Board of Directors for the American Contact Dermatitis Society and is the Associate Editor for Epidemiology and Biostatistics for the Journal of the American Contact Dermatitis Society. In 2004, she was elected to join the North American Contact Dermatitis Group, the premier research group in the United States for research in occupational and contact dermatitis.
Dr. Warshaw also runs the dermatology clinical research unit at the Minneapolis VA. She holds a number of VA and investigator-initiated grants in the areas of teledermatology, cutaneous fungal diseases, allergic contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis. She is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Warshaw has received a number of awards including Outstanding Full-Time Faculty of the Year Award for both 1997 and 2000, an honor elected by dermatology residents. She has held leadership roles in many societies including American Academy of Dermatology, American Contact Dermatitis Society, Women’s Dermatologic Society, National Association of VA Dermatologists, American Telemedicine Association , Minnesota Dermatologic Society, Association of Professors of Dermatology, Society for Investigative Dermatology, Council for Nail Disorders, and the International Dermatoepidemiology Association.
