U of MN graduate Dr. Megan Wood brings free sunscreen to the Minnesota State Fair

Dr. Megan Wood, University of Minnesota Medical School Graduate, and Dr. Rehana Ahmed-Saucedo, Assistant Professor, conducted a survey at the 2014 MN State Fair and found that the majority of respondents would use sunscreen at the fair if it were available for free. She and staff mentor Dr. Ingrid Polcari, Assistant Professor of Pediatric Dermatology, obtained a grant from the Masonic Cancer Center and partnered with Pharmaceutical Specialties, Inc. to provide free SPF 30 sunscreen in readily available pump dispensers at each information booth throughout the fair. Volunteers from the medical school and the Department of Dermatology will collect observational data that will be used to optimize sustainable future applications. Dr. Wood’s quest to provide free sunscreen as a measure for skin cancer prevention is highly personal, as she recently lost her father to malignant melanoma. Read More
